Introduction

Pay and spend anywhere in Africa. PayHero Africa is payment infrastructure that lets you collect and disburse money across the continent over a single, unified API — mobile money, bank, and card rails, in multiple currencies and countries.

Whether you’re building a remittance product, paying suppliers across borders, collecting from customers over M-Pesa, or funding wallets, PayHero handles the complexity of moving money between providers, networks, and currencies — and settles directly to your bank account, Paybill, or Till, so there’s no float sitting somewhere else and no waiting for payouts.

Collections (Pay-in)

Charge customers over mobile money, bank, or card and reconcile automatically.

Disbursements (Pay-out)

Send money to phones, Paybills, Tills, and bank accounts across countries.

Cross-border payments

Move money between currencies — collect in one market, pay out in another.

Wallet funding & remittances

Top up wallets and power remittance flows with a single integration.

  1. Authenticate with an API key (username + password) generated on your PayHero dashboard. See Authentication.
  2. Discover the rails, providers, and networks available for a country (for global payments). See How routing works.
  3. Create a payment — a collection or a payout — through the relevant endpoint.
  4. Receive the result asynchronously on your callback URL. See Callbacks & Webhooks.
  • Mobile money (MoMo) — M-Pesa, Airtel Money, and partner wallets.
  • Bank — major banks including I&M, Absa, Equity, DTB, Standard Chartered, Stanbic, KCB and more.
  • Card — where supported per country.

Countries currently include Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Nigeria and others, each with its own currency and provider set.
