KYC tiers & limits

For wallet and global payments, what you can do depends on your KYC tier. Payouts are broadly unrestricted; collections (pay-ins) unlock more capability as your KYC level increases.

With completed KYC, you can pay out to virtually any country FinoQ supports, without limits — regardless of tier.

Pay-in capability is gated by KYC tier:

  • KYC Level 1 & 2 — First-party collections. You can only top up using your own phone number — the number you used to open your FinoQ account. You cannot collect from other people’s numbers.
  • KYC Level 3 — Third-party collections. You can collect from any phone number, but only within Kenya.
  • KYC Level 4 — Global collections. You can collect from any phone number, across all supported countries.
KYC tier Collections (pay-in) Payouts (pay-out)
Level 1–2 First-party only — your own registered phone number Any supported country, no limits
Level 3 Third-party — any phone number, Kenya only Any supported country, no limits
Level 4 Global — any phone number, all supported countries Any supported country, no limits

Payments routed through Yellow Card follow their own rules. They apply only when the Yellow Card product is enabled on your account; without it, the tiers above apply.

  • Payouts — any account can pay out through Yellow Card, whatever its KYC tier.
  • Collections — a mobile money (momo) collection from your own registered phone number is allowed at any KYC tier and in any supported country. The customer phone number and the account number on the request must both match the number you opened your FinoQ account with.
  • Any other Yellow Card collection — a bank collection, or mobile money from someone else’s number — follows the tiers above.

A Team’s tier is set by its KYC submission. You can get there two ways:

  • Attach verification tokens from identity checks you have already run. The submission is approved immediately at the tier the tokens justify — phone or ID alone reaches tier 2, and a national ID plus a company tax ID reaches tier 3.
  • Submit documents and wait for FinoQ review.

Tier 4 is always granted by a reviewer.
